How to follow through and complete tasks

The Struggle is Real:

Does any of this sound familiar?

😝 We start 5 projects at once

😝 We bounce around and feel frantic

😝 We’re overwhelmed with nothing “completed”

Effective ADHD Strategy

Part of the challenge for us to complete things we start is that we tend to take on too much at the same time.

This causes overwhelm and makes it near impossible to think clearly enough to finish anything.

The most important factors to complete what we start are:

👉 SLOWING DOWN

👉 DOING LESS

👉 SIMPLIFY

Easier said than done.

Here are 5 steps you can try this week:

Step 1

Prioritize

  • Decide what matters most

  • Pick the one project or task you will start with

Step 2

Create the Space

  • Clear enough time to truly focus on the task

  • Give yourself more time than you think you will need

  • When we clear distractions and calm the nervous system, we can think clearly and move through tasks more easily.

Step 3:

Break It Down & Simplify

  • Break the project or task into steps

  • What are the pieces that you could start with?

Step 4

Embrace Imperfection

  • Done is better than perfect

  • Learn to appreciate “iteration” (This means that things improve gradually over time)

“For something to improve,

it needs to be completed first”

Step 5

Celebrate Completing Steps

  • We receive dopamine from completing something which fuels us to the next step

  • The more we complete small steps, the more our brain feels confident in our abilities which build momentum

Recap

The more we repeat this cycle, the better we get at completing each individual item along the way.
